RESUME

Why Medlog?

Watching my own family struggle with medication management, especially after my grandfather's hospitalization due to a missed dose, motivated me to create an app to address these challenges. My aim was to simplify medication management, making it easier for people to keep track of their medications and take them on time, ultimately improving their health outcomes

Tools

Problem

How can medication adherence be improved to avoid serious health consequences, considering the limitations of existing methods such as written schedules?

Design Method Used

For this app design process, I referred to the Design thinking Ideology which is a user centric approach to the problem solving. The process allows creation of a design that surrounds the needs and expectations of the target user.

Empathize

To create a user-centered solution, the empathize stage offers a lot of value. By using various research methods, it helps to understand users' needs, desires, and preferences effectively.

Literature Review/
Secondary Research

  • Many people struggle with medication adherence, which can lead to serious consequences.

  • Existing methods such as written schedules can be confusing and ineffective in helping individuals adhere to their medication schedules.

  • Mobile applications that provide reminders and support can offer a solution to these adherence issues.

  • Effective medication management requires considering several factors such as dosage, timing, interactions, storage, expiration dates, and side effects/allergies.

  • Failure to adhere to proper medication dosage and timing can have adverse effects on the user's health and increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance.

User Interviews

During the interviews, I found that asking these questions about managing medication and medical records was really helpful in gaining insights into the experiences and challenges of the participants. For example, many participants shared that they often forget to take their medication on time, which highlighted the need for a medication reminder app. It was also interesting to hear about the different tools and apps that participants used to manage their medication schedules and medical records, and their experiences with using them. Asking about privacy and security concerns with digital tools was important to ensure that any potential solutions would address those concerns.

Insight

There is a need for a user-friendly, digital platform that not only provides medication reminders but also offers a convenient way to store and access medical records. Users struggle with the inconvenience of carrying physical records and paper slips, often leading to forgotten medication and diminished effectiveness. By providing a single solution that addresses these pains, users can have a more seamless experience in managing their health and medication.

Customer Journey Map

Despite having different journeys, both users share the same goal of achieving medication adherence and efficient record management, as highlighted in the persona and empathy mapping exercises.

HMW Questions

  • How might we remind user for taking medicines?

  • How might we set up reminder?

  • How might we organize the medical records?

  • How might we organize the medical records?

  • How might we provide medical advises?

  • How might we communicate with health service providers?

Competitive Analysis

5.jpg

I conducted a competitive analysis to gain a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different medication management apps available in the market. By comparing features, user reviews, and pricing, I was able to identify the key players in the market. This analysis also helped me identify gaps in the market and potential opportunities for improvement in my ideation. Overall, conducting a competitive analysis allowed me to make a more informed valuable insights for app design process.

User Flow

To outline all the necessary functionality, I created a simple flow diagram of the main tasks the user can perform.
